PAREO '98

First meeting of the PAREO working group on
Parallel Processing in Operations Research

Versailles, France, July 8-10, 1998

The Conference Program is now available

Scope

The use of parallel computers leads to substantial time savings, and even makes it possible to solve larger problems than before. However, the effort required to harness the potential power of parallel computers should not be underestimated.

Within the Association of European Operational Research Societies EURO, the working group PAREO brings together researchers from both academia and industry who are interested in the development of parallel algorithms for problems in the area of operations research. Its objective is to bridge the gap between the two complementary disciplines of Operations Research and High Performance Computing.

PAREO'98 will be the first meeting organized by the PAREO working group. It intends to be the meeting place for researchers from all over the world, actively involved in the development and the application of parallel computing methodologies for discrete and continuous optimization. Through presentations and open discussions, the meeting aims to promote the exchange of recent results, to review successes and setbacks, to identify promising research directions and application domains, and to foster new collaborations. Furthermore, the program should give ample opportunity for informal discussions.

Program

The program will consist of invited lectures, discussions, and contributed presentations, and contributed 30-minute presentations, with no parallel sessions. Presentations will cover recent developments related to the main areas on the edge of parallel computing and operations research. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

Dates and location

The meeting will be held from Wednesday to Friday, July 8 - 10, 1998, in the Fermat Hall at the University of Versailles.

The University of Versailles is located in a park close to the Château de Versailles, 40 minutes by train from Paris. It offers an intellectually stimulating environment in pleasant surroundings. Discussion rooms and computing facilities will be available to the participants, who are welcome to visit the PRiSM (Parallel Computing, Networks, Data Bases) laboratory also located on campus.

Note that the meeting will take place in the week before the EURO XVI meeting in Brussels, and also during the last week of the World Cup Soccer in France. Due to this last event, we recommend you to reserve your accommodation as early as possible. We have reserved some rooms in hotels closed to the university. You have to confirm your reservation by yourself.

Registration

To register for the PAREO '98 meeting, return the (attached) registration form to the organizing committee. After receipt of the form and the appropriate fee, you will receive detailed information on the scientific and logistics of the meeting, hotel reservations, and on how to reach the University of Versailles.

Registration fees

The early registration fees apply until May 1, 1998.
Late registration fees are indicated in parentheses. The registration fee covers the book of abstracts, 3 lunches, a visit to the Château de Versailles, and the meeting banquet.

Submission of presentations

If you wish to give a 30-minute presentation, you should send a title and a short abstract to the organizing committee. After acceptance, you will be invited to provide an extended abstract of 5 -10 pages, which is to be published in the proceedings of the meeting.
